Recap: Men's Basketball makes it a sweep on Iowa road trip

Dubuque, Iowa

The Saints weren't as hot from the outside on Saturday as they were in Friday night's game, but they got the job done and won both games of a two-game road trip in Iowa to move into a two-way tie for second place in the Midwest Christian College Conference standings.

Central Christian held on for an 85-82 victory at Faith Baptist Bible College, receiving votes in the latest NCCAA Top 10 poll, on Friday night in Ankeny. On Saturday, they made the three-hour drive over to Dubuque and defeated Emmaus University, 80-72.

FRIDAY, JAN. 23

FINAL: Central Christian 85, Faith Baptist Bible 82
RECORDS: Central Christian (8-8, 4-3 MCCC), Faith Baptist Bible (12-7, 4-3 MCCC)

GAME NOTES:

  • Central Christian started out on fire, leading 30-13 just 8:46 into the game.
  • The Saints finished the night shooting 50 percent (12-for-24) from 3-point range.
  • Up three with less than 9 seconds remaining, the Saints had two chances to put the game away but missed two free throws and had a turnover.
  • Central Christian forced a missed 3 and got a steal on Faith's final two possessions.

  • The Saints were ice cold from 3-point range (2-19), but shot 67 percent (30-for-45) inside the arc.
  • Central Christian led by as many as 16 just 12:27 into play in the first half.
  • The Saints were balanced in scoring with five players in double figures and another with eight points.

Saints take two out of three at Faith Classic

Ankeny, Iowa

The Saints rebounded from a disappointing setback on the first day to win on the final two days of the Faith Classic that concluded on Saturday at Faith Baptist Bible College.

Central Christian lost to Kuyper College, 80-72, on Thursday after holding a 15-point lead with 10 minutes to go. On Friday, the Saints downed Providence University College (Canada), 70-66, then defeated Trinity Bible College, 85-77, in Saturday's game.

THURSDAY, NOV. 20

FINAL: Kuyper 80, Central Christian 72
RECORDS: Kuyper (4-4), Central Christian (2-3)

GAME NOTES:

  • Central Christian led for the majority of the game, including by 15 with 10:29 left to play.
  • Kuyper took their first lead since the opening minutes of the game when they went up 73-70 at the 2:52 mark.
  • The Cougars shot 46.2 percent (6-for-13) from 3-point range in the second half.

  • Central Christian had a rough shooting day, going just 4-for-19 (21.1 percent) from 3 and 37.9 percent from the field.
  • The Saints recorded 15 steals and got to the free throw line for 30 attempts.

  • For the third straight game the Saints led for the majority of the action with their largest lead at 17 late in the first half.
  • Trinity fought back to take a four-point lead with 10:26 left, but Central Christian responded with a 12-2 run to regain control.
  • The Saints recorded 21 steals and forced 25 TBC turnovers altogether.
