Saints notch first conference win, look for second on Friday

Moberly, Mo.

Coming off a tough loss the night before in the conference opener, the Central Christian College women's basketball team picked up their first Midwest Christian College Conference victory on Saturday by topping Barclay College, 66-32.

Both teams struggled early in the game with the Saints (4-10, 1-1 MCCC) shooting just 28 percent from the field and the Bears (1-9, 0-2 MCCC) 24 percent in the first half. Despite the low shooting percentages from both teams, the Saints held a 28-17 advantage heading into halftime.

The second half would be a different story. Strong interior play from Damia Covington and Hunter Salmons contributed to the Saints outscoring the Bears, 22-9, in the third quarter. They would continue to perform well throughout the second half, eventually leading to the 34-point final margin.

Covington led the way with 15 points and 23 rebounds. Salmons also registered a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Crystal Eureste added 15 points for the Saints.

On Friday, the Saints will travel to Joplin, Mo., to face Ozark Christian College in a MCCC matchup that begins at 5:30 p.m. The men's game follows at 7:30 p.m.
