Saints fall to top seed Toccoa Falls on Day Two of NCCAA Championships

Kissimmee, Fla.

The Saints were not able keep their unbeaten streak alive as top seed Toccoa Falls College put in a goal in each half to top Central Christian College of the Bible, 2-0, on Tuesday, the second day of the 2025 NCCAA DII Men's Soccer Championships at the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex.

Combined with the results from the other matches in Pool A, Toccoa Falls (13-4-3) secured their spot in Saturday's national title game despite the outcome of Thursday's matches.

Central Christian (17-3-2) could still finish the championships with a third-place finish depending on the outcome of their game with No. 3 seed Southwestern Adventist University on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

GAME NOTES:

  • Just five minutes into the match, Edwin Gonzales had a chance to put Toccoa Falls on top, but a diving stop by Lucas Carmo knocked the ball out of play to keep the match scoreless.
  • In the 27th minute, Patricio Bennevendo found Hector Tenorio in the box, and Tenorio got just enough space to lace a shot past the CCCB defense and put the Screaming Eagles ahead 1-0.
  • Zach Madrigal looked to add to the Toccoa Falls tally in the 30th minute, but a nice save at the last second by Jake Gracey kept the score 1-0 at the half.
  • Richard Freitas looked to open the second half with a tying strike for Central Christian College of the Bible, but a big save from Brandon Huerta kept the Saints off the scoreboard in the 46th minute.
  • Zackary Hathaway had a pair of breakaway chances for the Saints in the 66th minute, but his shots went just wide, and again CCCB could not quite capitalize.
  • In the 75th minute, Zach Madrigal had a chance to add to the Toccoa Falls advantage, but his shot went just high and the Screaming Eagles lead stayed at 1-0.
  • With under four minutes remaining, Carmo had a chance to add a goal for the Saints, but a fingertip save from Huerta kept Toccoa Falls in front.
  • Bennevendo iced the contest for the Eagles, as his strike with less than two minutes remaining pushed Toccoa Falls to the 2-0 victory.
