Saints pick up much needed MCCC road win at Barclay, come up short at No. 6 Manhattan Christian

Everything was clicking offensively for the Saints as they ended a five-game skid with a 96-82 win at Barclay College on Friday to start a weekend road trip in Kansas.

On Saturday, Central Christian College of the Bible hung with No. 6 Manhattan Christian College for periods of the contest, but went on to fall, 80-57, on Saturday inside the Howie's Activity Center.

FRIDAY, JAN. 31

FINAL: Central Christian 96, Barclay 82
RECORDS: Central Christian (5-15, 2-5 MCCC), Barclay (1-18, 1-6 MCCC)

GAME NOTES:

  • The Saints controlled the game for most of the way, grabbing a 12-point lead in the first half and holding a 49-39 advantage at halftime.
  • Central Christian shot 48 percent on 3-pointers, finishing 12-for-25
  • The Saints outrebounded Barclay, 48-36, and went 20-for-21 at the free throw line.
  • The win moved Central Christian up one spot to sixth place in the MCCC standings with four games to go.

GAME NOTES:

  • The Saints hit back-to-back 3s to go up 6-2 early on, but that would stand as their only lead of the game after MCC answered a couple minutes later.
  • Central Christian trailed by 12 with nine minutes to go in the half, but used a 9-0 run to narrow the gap to three. They trailed again by three with 2:33 remaining before halftime, but the Thunder answered to go up 40-29 at the break.
  • The Saints were hanging close at 55-45 with 8:49 left to play before Manhattan went on a 15-0 run over the next four minutes to put the game away.
  • The Thunder won by dominating the points in the paint, 34-16.
