Virginia native Alsberry signs with Saints

Moberly, Mo.

Central Christian College of the Bible head men's basketball coach Jack Defreitas on Tuesday announced the signing of Wayne Alsberry for the 2017-18 season. Alsberry is the fifth member of the Saints' 2017 class.

Alsberry, a 6-4 forward from Stephens City, Va., will transfer to Central Christian as a junior after playing a season each at NAIA members Cincinnati Christian University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Montreat College in Montreat, N.C. Last season he averaged a double-double while playing at the junior varsity level for Montreat.

A 2014 graduate of Mountain View Christian Academy in Winchester, Va., Alsberry was a standout for the Conquerors. As a senior, he averaged 19.6 points, 16.2 rebounds, and 5.4 blocks per game on his way to being named the National Christian School Athletic Association (NCSAA) Small-Division National Player of the Year.

Alsberry was a three-year starter for Mountain View and an all-state selection in his final two years. He helped the Counquerors to records of 24-12 in 2011-12, 34-9 in 2012-13, and 15-12 in 2013-14.

"I'm thrilled to have Wayne join our basketball program and campus community," Defreitas said. "His length and athleticism can be a difference maker, and it is nice to be able to plug someone in who has already played a couple of seasons at the collegiate level. Most importantly, I believe Wayne and Central are a good fit for each other as he finishes out his education and basketball career."

While at CCCB, Alsberry plans to pursue a Bachelor of Religious Studies and a dual enrollment degree from a partner institution.

Alsberry joins Jacob Case of McComb, Ohio, Micah Miller of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Alex Gibler of Madison, Mo., and Kedron Rollings of Hayti, Mo., as members of the Saints' 2017 recruiting class.
