Rodriguez becomes Saints second signee from southern Texas

Moberly, Mo.

Central Christian College of the Bible head men's basketball coach Jack Defreitas on Wednesday announced the signing of Jaime Rodriguez for the 2017-18 season. Rodriguez is the ninth member of the Saints' 2017 class.

Rodriguez, a 5-9 combo guard, is a 2017 graduate from Mercedes High School in Mercedes, Texas. He and Jesse Granados, who was announced as a Saints signee yesterday, are AAU teammates with the McAllen Ballers.

A two-year starter at Mercedes, Rodriguez averaged 16.3 points, 3.8 assists and 2.6 steals per game as a senior. The Tigers finished 24-8 each of the last two seasons, while Rodriguez earned first-team all-District 32-5A honors, and was named to the Rio Grande Valley Coaches Association second-team and all-defensive team this past spring.

"Jaime is quick and can really shoot the basketball from the outside," Defreitas said. "He really takes advantage of his speed and quickness on defense, which will fit in well with how we want to play. Additionally, I think he is a great young man and will fit in very well at Central. I'm excited to have two guys (Jaime and Jesse) who have played a lot of games together continue their journey together in college."

While at CCCB, Rodriguez plans to pursue a Bachelor of Religious Studies and a dual enrollment degree from a partner institution.

Rodriguez joins Jacob Case of McComb, Ohio, Micah Miller of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Alex Gibler of Madison, Mo., Kedron Rollings of Hayti, Mo., Wayne Alsberry of Stephens City, Va., Roy Patterson of McComb, Miss., Josh Crawford of St. Louis, Mo., and Jesse Granados of Edcouch, Texas, as members of the Saints' 2017 recruiting class.
